CONNECT - Fundraising Dinner Supporting Lifeline Australia

CONNECT - Fundraising Dinner Supporting Lifeline Australia

On Saturday 7 March at the Tim Olsen Gallery in Woollahra, Sydney's Eastern suburb vibrant art and film community will come together in support of Lifeline Australia, a charity organisation established in 1963 to provide a crisis line for people in need.

Proceeds raised will go towards helping lifeline Australia continue to provide their services to the community. Lifeline answered almost 500,000 calls last year from Australian's in need and is also actively involved in suicide prevention and other health awareness services.

"The aim of the evening is to increase awareness of the extraordinary work of Lifeline, as well as to create more cohesion within our own support network in a fun and entertaining way." said Sacha Hodgson, one of three passionate advocates who are driving this initiative.

Developing deeper into their commitment to this particular event, it becomes apparent that helping Lifeline Australia connect with people in need, runs parallel to their desire to connect with their local community.

"Often with busy lives, there can be a loss of connection and we want to bring our friends, and friends of friends, together to develop a stronger sense of community while also raising much needed funds." adds Yolande Dewey, event advocate and volunteer at Lifeline.

This spectacular evening promises the allure of fine dining by Pete Mason of Mason Rose Fine Foods, tunes compiled by Andy Glitre, paintings on display by artist Martine Emdur and Cello music from musician Ella Jamieson. Jan Edwards is styling the evening, eclectically referencing the theme of recycling where everything old is new again - mixing and matching vintage plates and glasses to create a beautiful environment. Larry Emdur will be MC.

Lifeline Australia

Lifeline was founded in 1963 by the late Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker, after he received a call by a distressed man, who three days later took his own life. Determined not to let loneliness, isolation or anxiety be the cause of other deaths, Sir Alan launched a crisis line, which operated out of the Methodist Central Mission in Sydney.

Just a few days after it was first established, Lifeline received over one hundred calls for help.

Lifeline's services now operate from 60 locations nationally, with a presence in every State and Territory within Australia.

Lifeline is part of an international network, and through its affiliation with LifeLine International has Centres in nineteen countries. Lifeline is also a member of theVolunteer Emotional Support Helplines (VESH) network. This network of Volunteer Helplines provides services in 61 countries around the world.
